Biography

Mandy Matthews meets the demands of multiple genres through active cross training. She performs regularly in musical theater cabaret nights, pop and jazz a cappella small groups, and a variety of choirs including The Sedona Academy of Chamber Singers directed by Ryan Holder. In operatic stage roles, she most recently played Zinnia in Chabrier's romantic opera L'Étoile, and Mezzo Pig in Michael Ching's Children's Opera Three Little Pigs Remix. While attending the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, she covered the roles of Cherubino in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro and Mrs. Mclean in Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah.  She performed in the chorus and covered Prince Orlofsky in Strauss's Die Fledermaus with the Bar Harbor Music Festival. Other musical theater and operetta roles include Nancy in Benjamin Briten’s Albert Herring, Louis Lane/Bianca in Cole Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate!, Kate in Gilbert and Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance, and the Second Witch in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas with Northern Arizona University's Lyric Theater.

Mandy has served as the music director for youth music theater organizations around the country including Footloose (Tecumseh Youth Theater, Tecumseh MI, 2022), Willy Wonka and My Fair Lady (Woodland Park High School, Woodland Park CO, 2019-2020), and Night at the Wax Museum (Jr. Woodland Players, Woodland Park CO, 2016). She has taught private voice and piano lessons since 2016 with various organizations including the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, the Northern Arizona University Academy of Music and Dance, Expressions Music Academy of Novi, Michigan, and her own private studio Out Loud Music Lessons. Her experience as an accompanist for freshman vocal students at Northern Arizona University inspired her to teach beginning piano lessons in addition to voice lessons. In 2019-2020, she served as the interim director of the choral department at Woodland Park High School. In 2023, she co-founded the first student chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing at Berklee College of Music/Boston Conservatory. She is also a current member of her local and national chapters of NATS and a proud member of the MAESTRA directory. ​She is currently working on writing a musical based on her experiences as a bartender.

Mandy graduated with her masters of music in vocal pedagogy from The Boston Conservatory at Berklee in 2024 and received a bachelors in voice performance from Northern Arizona University in 2018.
